Georgia Governor Nathan Deal visited Westside Middle School and the Barrow County School
System to get a first-hand demonstration of how Direct to Discovery interactive TV works
between a K-12 classroom and researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

news001 April 5, 2012 - Coral Reef Symposium at Georgia Tech
Some of the world’s leading marine biologists and coral reef ecologists presented research and
discussed topics related to coral-seaweed interactions and the structure and function of coral
reefs. Interviews from the symposium were sent via D2D to an Apalachee High School classroom.

news001 March 30, 2012 - Apple iPads Delivered to Westside Middle School
As part of the Race to the Top research grant, iPads were delivered to teachers and students
at Westside Middle School in Winder, Georgia. Students will use the Apple iPads to create D2D
presentations and use educational apps to enhance their classroom learning.

March 2, 2012 - Collaboration Day
On March 2nd, Barrow hosted “Collaboration Day” to celebrate their current success with D2D
and select the next 3 teacher/scientist teams that will begin working together to establish
3 new long-term collaborations that will be introduced to students beginning next school year.

December, 2011 - State Representatives See D2D in Action
State Representatives Terry England and Frank Ginn, along with Georgia Tech President Bud
Peterson and BCSS Superintendent Dr. Wanda Creel, visited Apalachee High School and
Haymon-Morris Middle School to see a live demonstration of how D2D works in the classroom.

September, 2011 - Race to the Top Grant Awarded
Gov. Nathan Deal announced 5 winners of Innovation Fund grants, a $19.4 million competitive
grant program created through Georgia's Race to the Top (RT3) plan. The plan will implement
innovative and high-impact programs aimed at producing positive outcomes for students.
